Artists of Mallorca Autumn Exhibition

On Friday evening, October 2, the Autumn Exhibition opened in the Museu de Sóller.
I was a bit worried that no-one would come out, after so much activity with the Art Prize over the 3 weekends preceeding this, but I needn't have worried. As always, it is great to see the artists out with their friends and family in support.
This year´s exhibition is made up of 5 painters and a photographer. 2 abstract artists, Xexca Martorell and Doralice Souza, with big bold works, and the first time there have been light boxes in one of the exhibitions; Niko Mosko, winner of the Artists of Mallorca Art Prize Eleccion Popular this year, who paints in an impressionistic style; Tomeu Colom who uses colour in an unusual way, and me with my more figurative paintings.
After the response to my lemon paintings at the Nit de l'Art in Palma, I decided to show these, along with a couple of new ones, at this exhibition. I have been naming the paintings based on what was in them, but then realised that I should be thinking about why I am painting lemons and roses.
One of my absolute favourite things to do is to go into my garden to collect things, either to eat or to make my home more beautiful. It is such a luxury to be able to just go outside and choose. As a Scottish person, the idea of having oranges and lemons in my garden is still hugely exciting, even after 20 years of being here.
I was also reminded recently of the historical use of lemons in paintings to show wealth, interesting that I still think of them as luxury items, even though they cost nothing.
